Our Story ✨

From a doubtful idea to a creative family project

Our story began in the summer of 2018, when a relative living in Canada - Arta's mother, Vita's mother Ilona's sister Rasma - visited Latvia. (Complicated, but important!) Rasma decided to introduce us to a new activity. She taught us how to make a decorative spider from beads. This creative process, although unskilled at first, fascinated us. We started using the beads left by Arta omes Ilona in her dowry and created our first spider designs without even thinking at first where it would take us.

Autumn came cool and creatively unexpected

Arta wanted to try participating in a market, but Vita was a bit skeptical. Being physically disabled requires finding new ways to be creative. We have never done anything like this and we don't know anything about applying to the markets! “Is anyone really going to like this?” we both wondered, teasing spiders late at night. However, we decided to give the idea a chance and applied for the first market - a flea market on the waterfront of Riga. We spent the last couple of days before the market folding boxes, selecting beads and working late into the night. Present October 6, a cool but beautiful autumn day. About 30 spiders on the table and anxiety in the heart.

Around us are tables, for some not-tables , or a blanket on the ground with junk and treasures from home. We felt a bit like fish out of water "Where have we got into?" But then slowly something unexpected happened. People began to gather around our table, admiring our work and listening to our story. What we started as an experiment turned into something much more special. This first success inspired us to continue. "What else could you figure it out?"

From the first spider to multiple designs

After this first market, we started participating in the fairs more and more often. We introduce more and more creative people and interesting projects. As the months passed, little by little we created something new - not only spiders, but also other insect ornaments, bracelets, earrings, brooches, necklaces and even holiday decorations - gnomes, snowmen and angels. It became our way of sharing the joy that this process brings to us.

Everyone has their own task

We have divided our responsibilities based on the strengths of each. Vita is a master craftsman – fast, precise and creative, creating the most delicate designs. She is also the star of the market – warm and sincere, able to address passers-by with our story. Arta is part of the digital team - online store creator, photo and text editor, customer support specialist and generator of new ideas. Together we exchange news and ideas and sift through what to strive for.

Arta's sister shares her opinions about the design, Arta's father - Vita's husband - gets involved, helping to prepare the materials - cutting wires, pins, pressing stamps and carrying heavy things back and forth to the car, because at markets you need a tent, a table and a dozen small things for a successful day. This is our joint project, supported by love and the strength of family.

A new step forward

2024. In October 2016, six years after our first market, we finally opened our online store. It's our way of reaching people who can't come in person - maybe even those who, like our family, have physical limitations in life. The Spider of Happiness is a way to keep your spirits up in difficult times.

We believe that our jewelry will bring joy, inspiration and beauty to your everyday life. Because every small spider web, brooch or necklace is not only a creation, but also a story of faith, courage and family togetherness. The Spider of Happiness is more than a decoration, it is a symbol of our strength!
